Report 3 Migration Deconvolution

چکیده
The migration section is the reflectivity distribution modulated by the discrete Green’s function for migration. For a poorly sampled trace distribution, the Green’s function introduces noise into the migration image that can obscure its interpretation. Using this migration Green’s function and assuming shift invariance, we propose an economical method to deconvolve the Green’s function from the migration image. This is a necessary step in recovering the true reflectivity information from the migrated image. Results with synthetic data show that migration deconvolution can noticeably improve the quality of a migration image, decrease the strength of migration artifacts, and improve the spatial resolution of the image. Preliminary results with 2-D marine field data show noticeable improvements in the deconvolved images but one example does not show a significant improvement in image quality after deconvolution.

Correction of Cable Feathering and Velocity Errors by Migration Deconvolution
In this paper, I apply the migration deconvolution to synthetic seismic images that have been distorted by cable feathering, migration velocity errors and recording geometry variations. The results show that migration deconvolution is able to suppress the velocity and geometry errors and can noticeably improve the quality of the migration image for both 2-D poststack and 3-D prestack migration....

An undersampled acquisition geometry and a limited recording aperture often produces migration noise (i.e., acquisition footprint) that blurs the subsurface reflectivity image. Here, we develop a prestack migration deconvolution (MD) filter that deblurs the migration image. The MD filter is applied to 3-D prestack SEG/EAGE salt data as well as 3-D marine data from Alaska. Results show that MD c...
متن کاملReport 2 Migration Green’s Function by a Stationary Phase Approximation
The analytical Green’s functions for the equations of zero-offset and non-zero offset migration were previously derived for a homogeneous velocity model and the far-field approximation. These approximations restricted their practical application to field data. I now derive the analytical migration Green’s functions for an inhomogeneous medium using a stationary phase approximation. These Green’...
متن کاملMigration Deconvolution versus Least Squares Migration
Both migration deconvolution (MD) and least squares migration (LSM) are capable of improving the resolution and suppress acquisition footprints in migrated images. In this report, I investigate the relative performance of these two methods in enhancing migration image quality, suppressing artifacts and computational efficiency. Both MD and LSM were implemented on synthetic data generated from p...

Poststack MD has been shown to be an effective method for attenuating migration noise, improving lateral resolution, and correcting for some migration amplitude distortion in 2-D and 3-D data (Hu and Schuster, 1998; and Hu and Valasek, 1999). In field data tests, poststack MD has successfully improved the 3-D poststack migration images (Hu and Valsek, 1999) obtained from both synthetic and fiel...
